List of Issues

The intention of a "List of Racing Issues" is to collect and document issues within the horse racing industry - anything at all that can be improved should be included.

The issues can be discussed, debated, clarified, and simplified online by posting comments to the original issue and everything will be kept in the comment log as archived history so please don't post rude comments. This will allow us all to better understand the issues that the racing industry faces WITHOUT the added pressure of trying to fix them.

Later when some change is being considered, we can point back to this list and say "it fixes that, that, that, and that" (referring to items on our list of issues). Each issue will have a discussion log (history) so we won't need to rehash the details over and over again - it'll be written done.

So if you have an issue - ANY ISSUE AT ALL - describe it in an email to MaurieDanko@gmail.com and i'll post it here for others to add comments to. Please tell your friends about this effort and lets generate some interesting content.

Thanks MaurieDanko@gmail.com

remove claiming rule

Remove the claiming rule. I should be able to take a $50K claimer that i claimed last week and shove it into $5K claimer if i choose. What if i claim a horse and he is gone bad because the jockey gutted him ?

remove the rule which requires a claimed horse move up 20% for two weeks.

This places the horses at risk as they may be forced to race over their heads,
it created uneven fields where a horse that is claimed and races poorly must
race in a more difficult field, it makes it difficult for owners because
many would like a return next week and may get stuck on 3 weeks training
when they can finally classify their horse in a competitive manner.

All these posts have my name on them but I'm simply sharing the opinions of other horsemen. I personally DO NOT agree with the notion that horse owners SHOULD be permitted to classify their own horses.

Its the industries purse money - i'll even go as far to say "its OHHA's purse money" and so the industry should have good rules in place to produce exciting and bettable races.

Having said that, our current rule is that any horse can enter any claiming race he chooses (their is some loose language about "being competitive" in the eyes of the race secretary but i've never seen it used). So why should horses coming off a claim be treated any differently. In this regard, I agree with the original poster ... our current rule on this makes no sense to me what so ever.
